LT. K.C. Riley

The squad’s tough no-nonsense lieutenant formerly commanded the department’s rape squad and exudes a world-weary veneer, as though shell-shocked and tempered by the brutality and tragedies witnessed on the job.

Kathleen Constance Riley is her full name but no one calls her that. She once shot the right knee cap off a deranged gunmen who tried to kill her wounded partner. The resulting newspaper story portrayed her as brave -- even heroic. Yet Riley was furious and warned the reporter to never again use her full name in print.

Women cops have to be tough and ambitious to achieve promotion, and she is both. Her dark blond hair is almost straight, shoulder length with a slight natural wave. Slim and athletic, she is a Miami native who spends too much time in the sun. On her desk she keeps a metal paperweight shaped like a hand grenade. Notoriously reserved and tightlipped with reporters, she is enthusiastic about the cold case squad. She is savvy and loyal, a tough but fair supervisor who will battle the brass and politicos to protect the squad and her detectives. She fights secret ghosts of her own, still grieving the loss of the man who was the love of her life.
